Computer Security  

The advent of always on broadband connections has exposed users to a range of security threats. Many homes and small businesses now have small simple computer networks. This course is aimed at the user who is familiar with there computer but wants to increase there knowledge of security, This course will examine through lectures, demonstrations and hands on practicals, the steps needed to secure a PC or small network for use on the Internet.

 

Aim: It will look at various types off modems and connection options including wireless and bluetooth. It will enable the students to tackle basic security issues and offer practical advice on the purchase and selection of equipment. By the end of the course students will have an overview of using a PC safely on the Internet and tutorials will be offered on virus protection and spy ware. We will examine an overview of disaster recovery if your system is compromised.

  • Safe access to the Internet sites and downloading files

  • viruses, spy ware and key logging, how to find them and how to deal with them

  • How to monitor your network

  • Protecting your network from attack or intrusion

  • The security needed for small business or home user wishing to enter the digital economy using e-commerce.

  • Disaster recovery, how to prevent it and what to do when it does happen

  • Encryption and its use

  • Digital signatures what they are and how to obtain one
